Trade and Finance Linkages Promoting Development:
A Policy Capacity-Building Workshop for Developing Countries

The South Centre, the Center of Concern, and the German Marshall Fund of the United States, are co-organizing the "Trade and Finance Linkages for Promoting Development: A Policy Capacity-Building Workshop for Developing Countries" on 19 October 2006, with the support of the Heinrich Boell Foundation, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United Nations Foundation, and the Forum for Environment and Development (Norway). This event will be held from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm, at Room XXIV of the Palais des Nations, United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland, on the above-indicated date.

Through the Policy Capacity-Building Workshop, the co-organizers hope to be able to contribute to enhancing the capacity of, and to provide discussion space for, developing country policymakers with respect to trade and financial policy issues, the linkages between these two policy areas, and the identification of the policy options and flexibilities that developing countries may avail of in these areas in the context of the WTO negotiations and the upcoming UN Financing for Development process. The participants for the Capacity-Building Workshop will include only developing country participants, NGOs, and academic experts.
