Advancing a Development Agenda on Climate Change for Developing Countries:
Side-Event to the 13th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, Bali, Indonesia, 5
December 2007 |
|
|
Time and Venue
13:00 - 15:00 hours, Room: Wind (Grand Hyatt)
Co-organizers: South Centre, Institute for Governance and Sustainable
Development and Third World Network
Event Description
Climate change and the
development prospects of developing countries are closely linked. These
links need to be better understood for countries to have a more integrated
and comprehensive approach to both development and climate change policy.
This side-event will
explore these linkages by addressing the following questions:
-
How can a post-2012
climate regime reflect these responsibilities and advance the
development interests of developing countries, while promoting "climate
friendly" and "climate proof" development pathways? From a development
perspective, what key issues should be included in the negotiations to
ensure a development-oriented outcome?
-
What changes would
need to be made in existing global and domestic policy approaches with
respect to trade, technology transfer, intellectual property rights,
financing, investment, economic diversification, etc. in order to
promote a global shift, especially in developing countries, to low
carbon and more sustainable development pathways?
