South Bulletin (South Centre, Issue 47, 26 May 2010) - Climate Talks Back on Track

The global climate talks are back on track, months after the chaotic ending of the Copenhagen Conference.

This issue of South Bulletin (26 May 2010) focuses on the UNFCCC talks in April and gives a brief preview of what to expect in the UNFCCC talks in the first half of June 2010.

Although enough confidence was built among the UNFCCC member states to resume negotiations, the talks ahead will be very tough as preparations are made for the next Conference in Mexico in December.

The Bulletin also reports on the Cochabamba people's climate summit in Bolivia and the meeting of Ministers of BASIC (Brazil, S Africa, China, India) held in Capetown.

The South Bulletin also reports on the launching of the Rio-Plus-20 process.  The UN is preparing for a Sustainable Development Summit in Rio (Brazil) in 2012.  We report on the first preparatory meeting in New York held in mid May.  The issue of the Green Economy was prominently debated there.

Finally we reproduce the historic Guidance Paper of 18 developing counties that have established the Development Agenda Group aimed at promoting a development dimension on intellectual property issues within WIPO.
