South Bulletin (South Centre, Issue 53, 15 March 2011): Tanzanian President Visits Centre

The 15 March 2011 issue of South Bulletin has three main themes:

  • Tanzanian President visits South Centre during Board meeting;
  • South Centre workshop on global economic problems and effects on South;
  • Cancun climate conference:  serious implications for developing countries.

1.  The Board and Council meeting of the South Centre.  The highlight was the visit of the Tanzanian President, Mr. Jakaya Kikwete, to the Centre and his discussion with the Chairman (Mr. Benjamin Mkapa, former Tanzanian President) and Board members.

2.   The South Centre workshop on global economic problems and effects on the South.  The Bulletin provides reports on the presentations -- on the dangers of capital flows and how to manage them; the rise of the South and what it means;  Africa's main worry is the EPAs; and the need for policy rethinking in the South.

3.  The UNFCCC's Cancun climate conference and its serious implications for the developing countries.  This is an in-depth analysis of the process and the contents of the Cancun meeting.
