6. Join the Intellectual Network for the South (INSouth)

• Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi elected as the Chairman of African Union
• Republic of Sudan assumes Chairmanship of the Group of 77 (G77 and China) for 2009 from Antigua and Barbuda.
• Five heads of state and 100,000 activists gathered for World Social Forum in Brazilian city of Belem from 23—28 January 2009 to promote region as alternative economic model in face of recession. These included Presidents Fernando Lugo of Paraguay, Evo Morales of Bolivia, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, Rafael Correa of Ecuador, and Hugo Chávez of Venezuela.
