Summary
The South Centre Innovation and Access to Knowledge Programme held a workshop to follow up the World Summit on Information Society.  The purpose of the workshop was to promote interaction and exchange of views and ideas among developing country delegates and other stakeholders on the current status and future of the WSIS implementation in various international fora including the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), WSIS and the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) – ECOSOC/UNCTAD.

 
Monthly Forum on Intellectual Property Negotiation Update, Innovation and Access to Knowledge Programme (IAKP) - South Centre, 7 May 2009

Summary

The forum aims to provide opportunities for developing country delegates to be updated on cross-cutting IP negotiations and other processes in Geneva and elsewhere on a monthly basis. It is dedicated to reviewing and assessing recent international negotiations sessions, providing a holistic overview across different forums, to allow delegates to better coordinate positions on the subject of intellectual property in different multilateral organizations. This second forum provided an update of the developments in the following fora: (a) the WCO meeting on IP enforcement issues in Brussels; (b) the 4th session of the WIPO CDIP in Geneva; (c) the WIPO PCT Working Group discussion on a roadmap and related proposals for reform of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in Geneva; (d) the UNFCCC discussions on climate change in Bonn; and (e) the discussions on counterfeit medicines in the forthcoming World Health Assembly in the WHO in Geneva.

 
South Centre Side Event to the WIPO Committee on Development and Intellectual Property, 28 April 2009, Geneva

The IAKP (Innovation & Access to Knowledge Programeme) held a South Centre side event to the WIPO Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP) on “Implementation of the Development Agenda Recommendation 22: What Mechanisms Should be Instituted in WIPO to Ensure that its Norm-Setting Activities are Supportive of the UN's Millenium Development Goals?"
